When your school orders lockers from lockersforschools.co.uk, we want your delivery experience to go as smoothly as possible. That starts with understanding what to expect at the point of delivery—and knowing what’s required to protect your order from any unexpected damage during transit.
Here’s what you need to know about kerbside delivery, checking your lockers for damage, and what to do before signing the delivery note.
🚚 What Is Kerbside Locker Delivery?
Most of our locker deliveries are made using a kerbside delivery service. This is standard in the industry for bulky, heavy items like lockers, cloakroom benches, and washroom equipment.
Kerbside delivery means:
The delivery driver will unload the lockers from the lorry to the nearest accessible point on your property (usually just inside the school gates or main entrance).
They will not carry the lockers into the building.
Movement of lockers into corridors, classrooms or storage rooms must be arranged by the school.
This policy is in place for insurance, safety, and logistical reasons—our drivers aren’t equipped to navigate school interiors, staircases, or narrow doorways with large, heavy units.
🛠 What Should You Do When Your Lockers Arrive?
This part is super important. The lockers will arrive wrapped in protective packaging, usually shrink wrap or cardboard corner protection. But even the best packaging can’t always protect against bumps in transit.
Here’s your step-by-step checklist when your delivery arrives:
✅ Delivery Day Checklist
1. Be ReadyMake sure someone from your site team, facilities, or caretaking staff is available when the delivery is due to arrive. You’ll need a couple of hands to unwrap and inspect everything before signing.
2. Unwrap the Lockers on the SpotYes, it might seem like a hassle—but it’s essential. Remove the shrink wrap and check each unit carefully for:
Scratches or dents
Damaged doors or frames
Loose parts or missing components
Bent legs or corners
Any signs of tipping or crushing
3. Check Inside the Lockers TooOpen up a few locker doors to check for internal damage or loose fixings. Make sure the locks are present and undamaged, and that doors open and close smoothly.
4. Take Photos of Any DamageIf something’s not right, take clear photos of the damage and the packaging it arrived in. This will help us quickly raise a claim with our carrier and resolve the issue with you ASAP.
5. Report Issues Before Signing as “OK”Here’s the key bit: don’t sign the delivery note as “unchecked” or “all good” if you haven’t properly checked. Once signed, the courier company may not accept damage claims.
If there’s visible damage, either:
Refuse delivery, or
Sign as damaged and inform us immediately via phone or email with the
details and pictures
🧍♂️ Why Can't the Driver Help Me Unwrap or Move Lockers?
We get this question a lot. While our drivers are experienced and helpful, they are not allowed to enter school buildings or help unwrap lockers for safety, time, and insurance reasons. Their responsibility ends at safe delivery to the kerbside location.
If you think you’ll need help moving lockers indoors or upstairs, let us know in advance—we can recommend trusted install partners or discuss specialist delivery options.
